About

Valli AlbertaTeaming up to help elementary school children in the Virginia Beach community become superstar students.

Growing up in a small town in the southern part of West Virginia in the ‘60s, communities like mine were extremely poor. If not for the generosity of others, I might not have had many of the positive experiences that shaped my life. This is why me and my husband Bob founded My Favorite Charity Events (MFCE) Organization, an IRS certified 501(c)(3) unique charity with a mission to improve the lives of elementary school children through a free, in-school mathematics tutoring program and a gift giving program at Christmas. We have teamed up and set our sights on affecting change in our community by focusing our attention on helping children reach their full potential, especially struggling students. By implementing these two programs we aim to boost morale and encourage scholastic success for children at an early age who are struggling in school in our community. We believe this support is needed for continued and sustained success throughout their school years, and beyond.

We have been involved in charitable work for most of our lives either through direct support or financially. In 2018, I partnered with the charity HotelKids.org and with the help of my coworkers, together we provided Christmas stockings for 60+ kids, and Easter baskets in the Spring. The next year my coworkers and I also supported the Salvation Army and the Union Mission by providing a collection of toiletries and foods items for their homeless population.

Bob, while stationed in Spain, supported a local Spanish orphanage for over two years providing clothing, blankets, hygiene products, Christmas gifts, and taking the kids to many events held on Torrejon Air Force Base. For the last three years, we have worked closely with our family, friends, and neighbors to rally Christmas gifts for a total of 111 kids. We did not stop there. We continued the Christmas program, and added a free mathematics tutoring program that helps students with basic math concepts with the goal of enhancing Standards of Learning (SOL) scores and family engagement in the child’s academic life.

Our charity is unique in that we are a local charity with two specific programs and work directly with the school and provide focused support rather than the generic support provided by other charities. This is impactful because the children are receiving the precise instruction they need to keep math scores up and Christmas gifts that they really have asked Santa for.

Our “skin in the game” amounts to this: MFCE Improves the lives of elementary school children academically through our free mathematics tutoring program, and benevolently through our Christmas for Kids program. MFCE aims to create impactful and lasting experiences for positive cognitive development in children.

Here is where we focus our efforts for struggling students:

  • Increase student scholastic performance in the formative years.
  • Search out and use community resources to promote and support proficiency and literacy in the subject of mathematics in the formative years.
  • Take a wholistic approach by showing love, support, and kindness to kids whose families struggle financially and are unable to finance Christmas gifts over the holidays.

We hope you will share in our vision to help as many children in our community, and their families, as we possibly can all the while positively impacting their lives by helping elementary school students become superstars. I’m grateful for every blessing that I possess, and I am willing to share. Will you do the same? If so, please feel free to use our donation button on any page on this site.

Thank you,
