My Favorite Charity Events June 2023 Donation Campaign Investing in the Future of Our Kids

If you are a parent with a child struggling in school or know of a family member or neighbor who has a child struggling in school, you are aware of the limited resources to help the child overcome their learning struggles. In fact, “two-thirds of teachers are reporting that their schools are not meeting the needs of their students, especially their students who are struggling the most,” per Evan Stone, co-founder of Educators for Excellence. Why our charity? We are different in that we partner with the school who provides us with the students needing help and in what subject or specific areas the student needs help with, and then we provide the perfect tutor with a tailored lesson plan for the student. My Favorite Charity Events Organization was founded to help those children that struggle to become student superstars, BUT it takes your help investing in the future of our kids to make this happen. Please read further.

During the month of June 2023, My Favorite Charity Events will be conducting a donation campaign—investing in the future of our kids.  Currently we are preparing for our school year tutoring program and our Christmas for Kids event. These programs are provided to Cooke Elementary School in Virginia Beach (VB), VA., but we have plans to extend our efforts to other elementary schools in the city and eventually beyond Virginia Beach.  BUT, we cannot do this without the support of your donations.  Though our current funds for these programs are extremely low, we want to continue providing support to our underserved children in the community.  You may think “Well, I have no children in the VB school system or that even live in Virginia Beach,” but the programs we have implemented here are critical to the educational success of these children and with plans to expand our programs, we hope to be working with a school near you in the future. Donations in any amount are appreciated and will help us continue to fund these programs. Making a donation online is both secure AND tax deductible!  Remember–100% of your donation will go towards these two programs. Below is a brief description of what the programs consist of:

Tuition Support Program

  • The tutoring program supports children who need additional assistance in mathematics and/or reading during the school year.
  • Tutoring is one-on-one using a combination of college students majoring in Education and retired teachers.
  • We provide at least 2 hours of tutoring per week free to the families.
  • Through our relationship with Cooke Elementary we are able to provide tutoring focused in the areas where the child needs additional assistance.
  • Utilizing student educators presents them with an opportunity to apply the skills they’ve learned in the classroom in a real-world setting. Student educators also get an opportunity to meet Cooke Administrators and teacher staff and become familiar with the Virginia Beach School System establishing a pipeline of new teachers into the school system.

Christmas for Kids Program

  • For the past 3 years we have provided gifts for underserved Cooke Elementary School children and their siblings, to date we have provided toys and clothes for over 120 children.
  • Our Christmas for Kids Program ensures that all children in the family unit are provided gifts, making for a very Merry Christmas.
  • We had fabulous support from our neighbors in providing toys and clothing, additionally a few businesses provided financial donations as well.
  • In 2023 we will provide for even more children at Cooke and look to expand into 2 additional Elementary Schools in Virginia Beach.

To us there is nothing better in life than to see a young child who has struggled in school, maybe been bullied because of where they live, what they wear, or how they do in school blossom into a confident, engaging and student superstar. We hope to level the playing field by making our underserved children shining lights in the community through our tutoring support program.

PLEASE DONATE AND HELP US INVEST IN THE FUTURE OF OUR KIDS.
