We were riding a high after learning that 50% of the kids we tutor had improved their SOL like test scores from the fall to winter test. This validated that MFCE’s Realize Academic Success Through Tutoring (RASTT) Learning Process was producing the results for which we were striving.
Since the February test, we have seen a marked improvement in the kid’s understanding and retention of math foundations.
In addition to addressing the educational needs of children, RASTT also provides a positive learning environment based on respect, classroom behavior, confidence building, and a student mentoring program.
Our tutors provide academic mentoring through our learning process, and confidence building through student presentations on subjects they enjoy.
We provide “career exposure” mentoring by introducing the students to various professions, bringing in career professionals to discuss the work they do and, in many cases, how mathematics is used on their daily job.
We have seen the confidence of the children soar from these activities. We are now in the homestretch of our tutoring program and will be focusing on teaching “how to prepare for and take tests” and conducting overviews and teaching on math functions the kids will see on the SOL testing.
Our goal – 75% of students will show improvement on their SOL assessment scores. Please consider a donation to MFCE to help us continue our proven work with our RASTT Learning Program.
